Many people move through their career waiting for things to happen to them or for them. Waiting and hoping that “someday” they will be recognized, known, respected, valued, and excited about their career. That “someday” their business will grow, they will have their ideal clients, partners and resources.

As most people know, waiting for things to happen to you does not bring fulfillment in your career – taking control and making things happen for yourself does!

How would you like to bring more passion and meaning to the work you do every day?
Take some time to answer the “questions to ponder” IN WRITING. Thinking about answers is a great first step, writing them down leads to greater awareness and commitment to change. Are you ready to begin?

WHERE ARE YOU NOW?

The first secret to a more fulfilling career is to take stock of where you are today. Maybe you are bored, stressed, or frustrated with your current role or environment; maybe you do not feel a sense of accomplishment; or maybe you are experiencing a lack of appreciation, feel you are not receiving the type of compensation you deserve or your schedule I s overwhelming.

What about the other side, those areas where you are very satisfied and fulfilled –
I’m sure there are many. Maybe you are working with some wonderful people, enjoying your flexibility, valuing your creativity, freedom and variety.
Whatever it is, it is important to clarify what is going on for you now so you have a foundation to build upon.

Questions to ponder…

What frustrates or drains you in your career?
What is working well and satisfying?
What needs and values are being met and expressed?
Which needs and values would you like expressed?

WHO ARE YOU?

Most people, when they talk about who they are in relationship to their career, quickly focus on their skills or strengths. You are much more than what you know how to do. You are a combination of talents, strengths, values, needs, qualities, and yes skills…

Questions to ponder…

What matters most to you, gives you energy and passion?
What qualities or traits best describe you?
What are you “known for” among colleagues, clients, your community?

WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE?
Regardless of who you are and what your experiences have been, you now have the CHOICE to become who you want to be. Your identity is not determined by your career. It is determined by WHY you do what you do, HOW you do it and how if EFFECTS others.

Questions to ponder…

What impact do you want to have in your career?
What do you want others (colleagues, clients, friends) to gain from interacting with you?
What new experiences do you want to be involved in?

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO BE?

When you take the time to DISCOVER the impact you want to have on others, to CLARIFY your own needs and values, to UNCOVER all of your interests and strengths, you are taking the time to honor yourself and move toward a more fulfilling life and career, with PURPOSE. This information will enable you to work smarter, not harder, to seek out and find the right projects, roles and responsibilities that fit YOU!

Questions to ponder…

How can you incorporate who you are, who and where you want to be into your career?
What type of environment suits you best?
What type of role do you really want to play?

HOW DO YOU GET THERE?

When you make the decision to make some changes in your carer, you must also commit to changing certain habits or beliefs that have allowed you to live the life you have been living. That little voice inside your head may start telling you all that you can’t or should not do, your fears may start rising about the unknown ahead of you, people in your life may be questioning or challenging your new direction or maybe you are. In order to achieve the career and life you want, you must be willing to confront and rise above the obstacles and challenges that will try to hold you back.

Questions to ponder…

What obstacles or challenges do you anticipate as you move forward?
What would it take to overcome these obstacles?
What are you committing to do NOW to have a more fulfilling career?
